 MEDIA ID: 1033 | Pete's Rebel Buccaneer with onboard video [9.82Mb] | [CROCK-2005_10_09]
[video] Pete's Rebel Buccaneer with onboard video (9.82Mb) Pete has been experimenting with a budget digital video (DV) camera that uses a standard memory card to record footage onboard. The advantage of this is that you do not need to worry about a telemetry link although both methods have their advantages and disadvantages. Pete has modified a Rebel Buccaneer to carry the DV camera in the payload bay looking down the side of the airframe, a classic onboard video angle which gives great results.

The first few attempts failed due to quirks in the budget DV camera e.g. you have to press stop or a full memory card to actually save the footage in memory, this was a problem when the battery cover popped open on a hard landing. Anyway after a few payload bay modifications Pete filmed this flight powered by a Pro38 J285 motor. You can see a great horizon shot looking over the Marshland and then out too sea. You can also see the great quality of this military (drogue) parachute.
