CROCK Event Report Introduction
WEATHER SUMMARY
Wind West/North Light 0-10MPH
Summary Warm
light wind and no rain
Cloud Broken Clouds
I don't understand our Great British weather anymore. The week started with dodgy changeable weather and in fact was very unpredictable all weak. The weather forecasts for the weekend were showers throughout. Saturday came and these showers didn't materialise, in fact it was nice and sunny on a whole. I was very doubtful as the MET office was still predicting showers for Sunday, our CROCK meeting, and surely I couldn't escape this unpredictable weather for a second day in a row.

Sunday came and looking out the window first thing the weather looked except able for a rocketeer. I powered up the computer and checked out the MET office rain radar to see where these showers were. Looking at the rain radar showed up very small and localised showers none of which were really threatening our launch site. I made my way down to Walland Marsh. The first thing that was noticeable down there was the lack of wind. This is unbelieveable as you usually get some wind down on the marshes. In fact the weather could not of been better with little wind and broken clouds and mostly sunny periods, brilliant.

CROCK Event Review
Reviewer: Gary MeakinThe day featured many rocket launches most of which were low power with a few high power launches and some usual mad CHAD clustering and staging. Malcolm launched lots of rockets and gliders through the day, most of which were successful except one of his gliders, but some great launches. John Sim was testing some experimental rockets. John's three-stage pyramid rocket was brilliant although not fully stable throughout the flight. John said it would be ready next time with more nose weight for a repeated flight. John also tested out a new idea in rocketry with a converted Ikea bog brush of all things.

Pete Williams had brought along his GPS telemetry system for another trial flight. Pete used his PML Patriot missile to payload the GPS that worked wonders again. Pete launched the GPS within a PML Patriot on a Pro38 I205 that made approximately 2400ft indicated by the GPS. Peter Gee, family and friends launched lots of rockets between them. Peter launched his LOC Warlock on a Pro38 I-motor. This was a spectacular flight although I only managed to capture a descent photo because the lift-off was so quick.

I also managed to accumulate a few flight through the day mostly with my LOC Starburst on many variations of Estes D-motors including CHAD cluster stages. My best flight of the day was my Aerotech Barracuda launched on one of my limited stocks of Aerotech motors. It launched on an Aerotech F40-10W that was brilliant. It has been a while since I have launched or seen an Aerotech motor ignite and it?s great to remind yourself of these motors as they produce much more noise and smoke then the ProXX series. Hopefully Aerotech motors will sometime be available in the UK again, fingers crossed. Gary Meakin
