CROCK Event Report Introduction
WEATHER SUMMARY
Wind South-West Gusting 5-20MPH
Summary Dry bright and sunny
Cloud Patchy cloud
Its been a while since I have been able to make a CROCK meeting due to the unlucky dates the meetings have landed, this time I was free and rocketeering. I was really looking forward to attending, and for once I only had to travel about 20-miles to get there as apposed to 100+. Check out the photos that I took of the day?s events.

CROCK Event Review
Reviewer: Gary MeakinWhile trying not to keep an eye on the weather forecast leading up to the meeting I did catch a glimpse of the forecast on TV that was forecasting rain. On Saturday the forecast was completely different with rain clearing Saturday evening ready for some hot and sunny weather on the Sunday, yes some luck from the rocket gods. I made it down to the site at around 10am and while there was some wind it was only a breeze at around 5mph. Although by the time we had set up the wind had increased slightly. This didn't stop any flights though.

First up was Michael with a scratch built rocket on an Estes D-motor which went well although drifted to the next field! I then launched my repaired Rogue Standard Arm-45 that needed a good airing as it hadn't seen daylight in over a few years. The flight was not bad on an Estes D12-5. Malcolm launched various rockets on Estes motors some of which drifted some distance too. By this time the wind had picked up again and rockets were drifting even further.

Pete Williams arrived with a new toy consisting of a GPS telemetry package from GPSflight that he wanted to test fly on a HPR rocket. Pete used his PML 1/4 scale Patriot to carry the GPS modules on a Pro38 2-grain. The GPS telemetry worked really well displaying vertical and ground speeds, barometric and GPS altitudes along with a ground based survey plot of the rocket flight. A very impressive flight and a great test of the GPS telemetry package. By this time the wind had increased to a moderate wind gusting to an estimated 20mph. Andy and his team launched a few Estes rockets one of which drifted a very long way and was lost in the long grass which was a shame.

Apart from the wind that made rocketry a non-event in the end it was a good meeting until the wind won, although the warm summer sun was a blessing. Hopefully next time the wind will be kind to us down on the open marshes. Gary Meakin
